Call Upon God In Every Temptation
Out of the depths I have called to you, O Lord. Lord, hear my voice. Let your ears be attentive to the sound of my cry for mercy. (Psalm 130:1–2)
This week we have focused on Jesus conquering Satan and taking away his power. Jesus has stolen us out from under Satan’s power and made us his family. But that doesn’t mean that Satan won’t try to come after us and put us back under his power. Peter describes him as a “roaring lion, prowling around, looking for someone to devour” (1 Peter 5:8). In fact, sometimes it seems that Satan works harder to tempt us and he throws everything he can at us.
But David gives us our response when Satan comes after us, to tempt us. It is to call to God. For he will listen to us and answer us. He will give us strength to stand against Satan and to resist his temptation. And even when we do fall into Satan’s temptations, we know that there is forgiveness and mercy from God. For God does not abandon us, but he gives us his only Son to be our sacrifice, once for all sins of all time. This is the greatest victory that could ever be ours. Amen.
