Entrusted As Faithful Witnesses
Entrust the things you heard from me, in the presence of many witnesses, to faithful men who will also be able to teach others. (2 Timothy 2:2)
As Paul encouraged Timothy to continue in the work that he had started, Paul told Timothy that he also was to train others to share the gospel. It was not only Timothy’s job, as a pastor, to share the gospel. Timothy was to train other faithful men to help him share the gospel. But sharing the gospel would not be without its struggles. Just as Paul was suffering in chains for sharing the gospel, Timothy would certainly also suffer in some way for sharing the gospel.
Sharing the gospel is not always an easy task. It takes a lot of courage to say to someone that they are a sinner, damned to hell because of their sin, but forgiven in Jesus. But we also are never alone in sharing the gospel. We have others that have been trained to share God’s Word, and our pastors are there to teach us those same truths that we share with others. Ultimately, the Spirit is always with us, even as we share God’s Word with others. So let us be faithful as we share God’s Word with others. Amen.
