Jesus Scored Us Salvation
After he was brought to his goal, he became the source of eternal salvation for everyone who obeys him, (Hebrews 5:9)
When Jesus came down to this earth his goal from the beginning was to go to the cross. From the moment he was conceived by the Holy Spirit, he had the cross before him. As he grew to be a young man, he always kept that goal in mind. Over the three years that he traveled throughout Israel, teaching the people, he was constantly preparing his disciples for the day that he would accomplish his goal.
Jesus suffered at the hands of evil men; and yet, through it all, he did not disobey or try to get out of his suffering. Instead, he obediently bore the suffering and the punishment that our sins deserved. He silently took the beating and the abuse at the hands of the Sanhedrin and Pilate’s soldiers. He willingly carried the cross to the point that he couldn’t anymore. He allowed himself to be nailed to the cross so that he might reach his goal. And through that goal, we have salvation. He has made us obedient children through his death on the cross. He was brought to his goal for our sakes. For that, we strive to obey his commands and live as examples for others. Amen.
