Learn From Little Children
When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said, “Let the little children come to me! Do not hinder them, because the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. (Mark 10:14)
There is this notion out there that church is for adults. People think that children are too disruptive and noisy in church. But that is just not true. It may be hard to hear at times when children are talking and screaming but it is good for us to remember that church is not just for adults.
Even though it may not seem like it to us, studies show that children are always learning whether we see it or not. And if we want our children to grow up to see the importance of church, then we need to have them in church even when they are young.
When Jesus’ disciples tried to stop little children from coming to him, Mark tells us that Jesus was indignant. He was frustrated and upset. These little children needed him just as much as the disciples did. And the disciples could learn a thing or two from the children. They could learn to trust Jesus and put their faith in him, like the little children.
We too can learn from our children. We can learn to trust without question as little children do. We learn to love everyone like little children often do. We can learn to share this good news with people like little children, not caring what others might think of us.
And while we learn from these children, let us also teach them. Let us bring more and more children to hear this life-saving message, that Jesus loves us and died to pay for all our sins. Amen.
