Love Helps The Kingdom Grow
We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, because we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and the love that you have for all the saints (Colossians 1:3–4)
Luke never mentions in Acts that Paul specifically went to Colossae to preach and teach. In fact, Paul might have never been to Colossae at all. And yet, he knew this congregation of believers. He knew that faith that they had because he had heard. He had heard about the love that they showed to others who were of the same faith. Paul heard this from his good friend Epaphras, and because of Epaphras’ report, Paul wrote them a letter to encourage them.
Paul started his letter to the Colossians by thanking God for their faith, a faith that showed itself in the fruits that they bore. They showed their faith through love. Specifically, they showed love to those who were sharing the kingdom of God and spreading the Word.
We too are thankful for those who show love to those who share the kingdom of God with us and others. We are thankful for those who come and share God’s Word with us and strengthen us in our faith. We too want to show love to all the saints, those who share God’s Word. And we also continue to share God’s Word so that his kingdom may grow. We spread it to those who have yet to hear it and receive that faith that comes only from the Holy Spirit. And we thank God when his kingdom grows. Amen.
