Praise God For the Messiah
He has raised up a horn for his people— the praise of all his favored ones— for the children of Israel, the people close to him. Praise the Lord. (Psalm 148:14)
In Psalms 145 to 150, David lists the many reasons to praise the Lord. He lists the who, and the when, the how, and even the why. David lived over 1000 years before Jesus was born, and yet he writes this verse, telling people to praise the Lord for the Messiah, the horn (of power) that he has raised up.
David trusted that when God promised to send a savior to the people of Israel that God would keep his promise and rescue his people. This brought great joy to David, knowing that he could stand before God as blameless through the promised Messiah.
As New Testament Christians, we have as much and more reasons to praise the Lord for his messiah. We have heard and read how the Messiah came into this world and exactly how he accomplished our salvation. We have explicitly been told of God’s free grace and mercy on those who fear and love him. We know that he is coming again to take us to be with him for eternity. So if David can praise the Lord for his promised Messiah over 1000 years before he came, then we certainly have all the more reasons to praise him 2000 years after he came and revealed himself to the whole world. Let us praise God for his horn of salvation that he has sent for us. Amen.
