Friday November 6, 2020 - Sing a New Song
Praise the Lord. Sing to the Lord a new song. Sing his praise in the congregation of his favored ones. (Psalm 149:1)
I love music. I enjoy singing and playing music. It brings me great joy to be able to make music. I especially love playing and singing many of the older hymns. They were often so simple, yet so profound. The old hymn writers like Martin Luther, Paul Gerhardt, and others, knew how to write such profound hymns that were easy to sing. Look at hymns like A Mighty Fortress or O Jesus Christ, Your Manger Is. These hymns praise God for who he is and what he has done for us. And they are “catchy.” They never seem to grow old to me.
The psalmist that wrote Psalm 149 tells us that God loves to hear our new song to him. He wants us to praise him with a new song that never grows old. In Revelation 7, we hear that new song. It is the song that the saints around the throne sing. As they are pulled out of the great tribulation, they continue to sing praise to God.
May we also praise God with this new song. Let us praise him for the salvation which he gives to us freely. Amen.
Our song for today is “Praise To The Lord (Joyful, Joyful)” by Shane and Shane.
