Redeemed Without Money

Yes, this is what the Lord says. You were sold for nothing, and you will be redeemed without money. (Isaiah 52:3)

Most people like free stuff. A free coffee or a free meal. Free clothes. Free help. Sometimes the free stuff is just as good as (or maybe better than) the stuff that is paid for.

Isaiah tells us that we have something else that is free. Something we might not even realize. We have free redemption. We were enslaved by sin and death. We were their prisoners with no way of redeeming ourselves from them. But Jesus paid his blood to redeem us. Freely he gave up his life so that we were freed from the bonds of sin and death.

Redemption cost us nothing. It was given to us freely. We did nothing to earn it or deserve it. No amount of money could have ever bought us our redemption. But it cost God everything. It cost the Father his Son. It cost Jesus his life. He willingly paid that price so that we could be called his brothers and sisters. What joy that gives us. Amen.
