Friday October 9, 2020 - Our God is Still In Control

Why should the nations say, “So where is their God now?” In fact, our God is in the heavens. He does everything that pleases him. (Psalm 115:2–3)

This week we had to make the tough decision to suspend in-person worship for two weeks. While we were hoping that it would never come to this, we also realize that this is hopefully the best course of action.

When people drive by our empty church, I wonder if some of them don’t ask themselves “So where is their God now?” I wonder if many of those who do not believe were given this false perception that we naively believed that God would protect us from all that is going on in our world. So when they see the church being affected by the concerns of the world, they are tempted to think “So where is their God now?”

But the answer to that question is not that he is gone or not in control. He is still in heaven, still in control. But he has not promised us that COVID or any other disease would not come near us. He has not promised us that racism and violence wouldn’t affect our church. And sometimes He does allow these things to happen to his people.

He is our God and he does what pleases him. What pleases him is to bless his people with eternal life and salvation. It pleases him to forgive the sins of his people. He pleased to work all things for our good. It pleases him when we respond to his grace and mercy by living according to his will. It pleases God when we respond to the concerns of the world with kindness, not engaging in slander and gossip. It pleases God when we show his love to others.

God does what pleases him. Let’s thank him for his mercy and grace by doing what pleases him. Amen

Our song for today is “ No one Like Our God” by Lincoln Brewster
