Jesus, The Life of Jesse's Tree - Preview

But Jesus answered him, “Let it be so now, because it is proper for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then John let him. (Matthew 3:15)

As we prepare to celebrate our savior’s birth once again, we skip ahead to the begining of his ministry here on earth. We see baptism sanctified by God and connected to Jesus baptism. Here we see righteousness fulfilled, which is given to us in our baptisms. Here we see the Life of the Jesse tree.

In baptism, we receive life. We receive the washing away of our sins. We receive righteousness. In baptism, Jesus puts his name on us. We are made a child of God in baptism.

As we see Jesus being baptized, the Spirit descending like a dove, and hear the Father’s voice from heaven, we see life given to the Jesse Tree. We see the promised Seed, taking root and bringing life to those who were once dead. Here we see Jesus begin his journey that leads to the cross. Here we see him connect himself to us and take our sin from us.

What a powerful thing baptism is. It connects us to Christ’s perfect life. It brings us life. Amen.
