No Problem Too Small
and said to him, “Everyone serves the good wine first, and when the guests have had plenty to drink, then the cheaper wine. You saved the good wine until now!” (John 2:10)
As Jesus was beginning his ministry, he took time to attend a wedding with the disciples that he had currently called. While Jesus was at the wedding, the wedding party ran out of wine. Mary recognized this problem and went to Jesus. She knew who Jesus was, and understood that no problem was too small for Jesus.
When the servants drew the water to take to the master of the banquet, they knew that it was no longer water. But when the master of the banquet tasted the wine, he was amazed. Not only had Jesus turned the water into wine, but he had made it into excellent wine. And John tells us that Jesus did all this so that his glory might be revealed.
I have a tendency to think that I can solve my problems on my own. I justify my actions by comparing my problems to the problems that others face, and I conclude that my problems are not as big. And I know I’m not the only one who does this. We tend to downplay our problems because we don’t want to burden anyone with our problems. But Jesus wants us to bring our problems to him. He wants to help us with our problems. No problem that we have is too big or too small for Jesus. When we bring our problems to Jesus, he fixes them excellently. He already did with our biggest problem: sin. Not only did he take away our sins, but he took the punishment for them, and put them on himself so that we no longer are guilty of them. So let us take all our problems to Jesus so that he can completely and excellently take care of them. Amen.
