“Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost. Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy? Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and your soul will delight in the richest of fare. (Isaiah 55:1–2)

Wouldn’t it be nice if we didn’t have to pay for groceries? Wouldn’t it be nice if we could spend our money only on the things that make us happy, that satisfy us? What if we could have the best food without ever having to pay for it?

God offers us that, but he is not talking about physical food. While we are still in this world, we will still have to pay for our groceries or work hard to produce the food that we eat. And we will not always enjoy the best food. But we have this spiritual food that God invites us to come and be satisfied by without cost.

God offers to feed our souls with his Word at no cost to us. He has already taken care of the cost. He has paid the price with the blood of Jesus. We have the richest of fare, the forgiveness of sins and eternal life, at no cost to us. That satisfies and delights our souls.

Next time you go shopping or out to eat, thank God that he gives you spiritual food at no cost. Amen.
