The King's Bride
The princess, who waits inside, is all glorious. Her dress is interwoven with gold. In embroidered garments she is led to the king. Virgins who follow her as attendants are brought to you. They are brought with joyful celebration. They enter the palace of the king. (Psalm 45:13–15)
Psalm 45 was written to be a love song. It was a love song, speaking of the love that the king had for his bride. But the picture goes beyond that. It extends as a picture of the love that our king has for his bride. Our king is God. And his bride is the church. This is the relationship that we model our own marriages after.
As the bride of Christ, we celebrate. We celebrate that he has clothed us in the fine linens of righteousness. For our sins were like filthy rags. They covered us from head to toe and made us a stench to God. He should have wanted nothing to do with us. But he sent his Son who gave us our robes of righteousness, ornately ordained because of his blood. For this, we celebrate over God’s love for us. And we stand beside the king, as his bride. Amen.
The song for today is “Lord, When Your Glory I Shall See” by The Seminary Chorus (Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary)
