Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” (Exodus 14:13–14)

As the Egyptian army advanced against the Israelites in the desert, the Israelites were scared. It seemed that they had been trapped by the Red Sea. They were not trained fighters. The Egyptians would wipe them out. But Moses reminded them of the God who was fighting for them. They were to trust that God would deliver them, and be silent or still.

When we face hardships and trials, it can be easy for us to focus on what we are going through. We are tempted to look at what the situation is. Moses’ advice to the Israelites is good advice for us. When we face hardship and trials, we need to trust the Lord, who fights for us. We need to stand firm in faith. We need to be silent and still and listen. We need to believe that God fights for us, just like he did for Israel. Then we will see how God delivers us.

As you go through hardships and trials, be still and stand firm. Trust the Lord, who fights for you. Amen.
