But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.” “Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came towards Jesus. (Matthew 14:27–29)
When Peter realized that it was Jesus walking on the water, he trusted that Jesus could make him walk on water as well. He wasn’t worried about the storm or the waves. It was only when Peter was distracted that he started to sink. In the moments that Peter was walking on the water he wasn’t afraid. He had courage and trust.
In spite of storms in our lives, we trust that Jesus is watching over us. We read our Bibles and see that he is right there. We trust that he will see us through. Our faith makes us courageous to ask the Lord for what we need. We ask for what we want boldly. And we trust that when we go through storms, or hardships, that God is there to save us.
He has already saved us from the storm of sin. Through Jesus, we have been given the faith that trusts. Only because of Jesus do we have faith that is courageous and is not afraid.
Today, pray for those who have been affected by the hurricane/ tropical storm Laura. Trust that God will watch over them and you. Amen.
Our song for today is “Eternal Father, Strong to Save” sung and played by Chris Brunelle.
