Tuesday October 13, 2020 - Repentance Pleases God
For I take no pleasure in the death of anyone who dies, declares the Lord God. So repent and live! (Ezekiel 18:32)
Sin is not God’s doing. It is man’s disobedience that brought sin into the world. And sin brought death with it. But God planned to redeem those who had fallen under the curse of death.
God wanted his people to see how serious their sin was, so he gave them the law and the sacrifices to atone for when they broke those laws. But his people made those laws into acts that they thought they could do to earn their way into heaven. Sometimes, they just forgot about them and the sacrifices altogether.
God called them to repent of their sin. He asked them to change their mind about their sin. They thought their sin was just fine but God hates sin. So he called them to repent so that they would not die spiritually or eternally. Through repentance, they could take hold of spiritual and eternal life.
We are God’s people. Daily, we sin against God in numerous ways. And we need to repent of our sins. Repentance means that we confess our sins to God and ask him to forgive us, trusting that he already has. It also means that we strive to live a holy life. Repentance is faith put into action. It is a realization of the seriousness of sin, and faith grasping the promise that Jesus has paid for our sin and made us right with God.
God does not want to see anyone die because of their sins. He wants to see all of his creation in heaven with him, and so he calls us to repent so that we might live with him in eternity. Amen.
