Tuesday October 27, 2020 - A Rich Banquet
On this mountain the Lord of Armies will prepare for all peoples a banquet of rich food, a banquet of aged wines, with the best cuts of meat, and with the finest wines. (Isaiah 25:6)
Who doesn’t like a good feast? Maybe something like Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner? All the food and drinks. Foods that you would probably not eat on a regular basis. Food that takes hours to prepare. Drinks that are often reserved for special occasions. Family and friends that we enjoy spending time with.
Isaiah tells us that God has prepared a banquet or a feast for us. He has prepared rich food, the best cuts of meat, and fine wine for us. The banquet that Isiah is talking about is the banquet of heaven. It is not an earthly meal that fills us for a few hours (or puts us in pain for a few hours). This banquet is a heavenly banquet that satisfies us for eternity. This banquet is the celebration of Jesus’ victory over sin, death, and the devil. It is the wedding banquet of Christ to his Church. It is the celebration of sins forgiven, that we celebrate daily.
This rich banquet is a feast that satisfies us every day of our lives here on earth, and into eternity. Rejoice that you have been invited to this rich banquet. Amen.
