Tuesday Septemeber 29, 2020 - God Works For Good

Joseph said to them, “Do not be afraid, for am I in the place of God? You meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring this to pass and to keep many people alive, as it is this day. (Genesis 50:19–20)

Remember what all happened to Joseph? How he had suffered many things because of them? And also became very powerful because of what happened to him? Being his father’s favorite son meant that his brothers were jealous of him and they sold him into slavery. Through Joseph being sold into slavery, he eventually was asked to interpret Pharaoh’s dreams. After Joseph interpreted the dreams, Pharaoh put Joseph as second in command. Joseph had the Egyptians stockpile food for themselves and others.

When Jacob passed away, his brothers thought that he might still be holding a grudge against them. With their father no longer around to keep the peace, his brothers feared that he would try to get revenge on them. But Joseph understood that God had a plan for him. God had used the sin that his brothers committed to work everything out for the good of many people.

When others sin against us, often we try to get revenge on them. However, God asks us to forgive others when they sin against us. And sometimes he uses that sin to work something good in our lives. When we see that God is in control and that he uses sinful humans like us to bring his word to lost souls, we forgive others for the wrongs that they commit against us.

When someone does wrong to you don’t get mad or even. Forgive them. Show them God’s love through you. Amen.
