A Day of Rest

for in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and everything that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. In this way the Lord blessed the seventh day and made it holy. (Exodus 20:11)

Moses gives us this reason for remembering the Sabbath. In six days, God created everything, and it was good. He created everything to be perfect. And when God had finished his creating work, he rested. When Adam and Eve sinned, they no longer worshipped God in everything that they did. So God set aside the Sabbath for a day of rest and worship for his people. For them to focus on their sins and the promised savior.

While we don’t always have a set day to worship our God anymore, we still have set time aside to reflect on our sins and to be reminded that our savior came as our brother. We take time to rejoice that our brother, Jesus, fulfilled the law for us. He perfectly remebered the Sabbath as a day that is holy to the Lord. He taught and preached the Word of God. He revealed the Father to us. He gives us the righteousness that is his through the full obedience of the law. Amen.
