Friday October 2, 2020 - Praise God for Forgiveness
Bless the Lord, O my soul, and do not forget all his benefits— who pardons all your guilt, who heals all your diseases, (Psalm 103:2–3)
David knew what it was like to be forgiven of his sin. Many times he had tried to hide his sin from God but it always seemed to catch up with him. When he was forced to face his sins head-on, he found forgiveness in who God is. For that, David praised the Lord. He was grateful to God for his unfailing love.
Like David, we know what it is like to be forgiven. In the waters of Baptism, we find the washing away of our sins. In the Lord’s Supper, we receive Christ’s body and blood, shed for the forgiveness of our sins. At the beginning of the service, we hear that our sins have been forgiven. We hear and say it to one another.
For all the times that God forgives us and reminds us that we are forgiven, we should praise God. We should praise him for his unfailing love to us. And we do. We praise him in our worship. We praise him when we forgive others. We praise him when we set a good example for others. We praise him in everything that we do as Christians.
Take time this week to consciously praise God for the forgiveness that he has given to you. Praise God in everything you do. Amen.
