Friday September 4, 2020 - God's Mercy for All People
For God has bound all men over to disobedience so that he may have mercy on them all. (Romans 11:32)
The Jews had rejected Jesus as the Savior. They gave up their rights to the kingdom of heaven. Paul says that this was so that the Gentiles might also be shown God’s grace. In the verses before this verse, Paul says that even though the Gentiles were once disobedient, they received God’s mercy.
Through the disobedience of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, all mankind was brought into sin. We were bound in our sin. We were not able to pull ourselves out of sin and disobedience.
Because of that sin, God sent Jesus to bring his mercy to all people. Both Jews and Gentiles were shown God’s mercy and grace through the sacrifice of Jesus. By the grace of God, Jesus set us free from the bondage of sin and disobedience.
This does not mean that we can blame God for our sins. Our sin is still ours. And as Christians freed from sin, we strive to live lives of holiness.
Today, as every day, live as people freed from sin by God’s mercy. Thank God for his grace and mercy. Amen.
