Tuesday September 1, 2020 - A Long Way to Travel

But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near through the blood of Christ. (Ephesians 2:13)

Whenever someone from far away comes to visit, do you check up often to see how far away they are? Or if you go on a trip that requires you to travel a long distance to visit someone, do you send them regular updates as to how far away you are? And when you arrive at your destination or your guest arrives, you are excited. Excited to see the person or people that were once far away. Also, there is excitement that the travel is over for the time being.

We all were once far away from God. But we couldn’t just hop on a plane or a bus, or hop in the car and travel to him. Because of sin, we were permanently far away from God. In fact, we were so far away from God that we did not even know him or have a relationship with him.

But Jesus brought us to him. Through his blood, shed on the cross, he brought us close to God. He gave us a relationship with God. He made us his family. And at some point in our lives, someone introduced us to God. They told us who he is and they showed us his Word. And when were brought close to God, there was much excitement. There was excitement in heaven and I’m sure excitement among a group of the believers here on earth.

Rejoice that you were once far away but you have been brought close. Seek to bring others close as well. Amen.
